Turning 40 and Fleeing the Country

turning 40 and fleeing blog title PS

This month, I’ll celebrate a milestone birthday and, I must say, I’m not that excited. Every other birthday involved a month-long celebration filled with vodka, friends, and some sort of shenanigans. So, why not my 40th? If you’re reading this and you’ve already turned 40, I think you know the answer!

I’m not saying 40 is the worst thing that could happen to a person but I’m not ready to cross that threshold. Turning 30 was hard but 40 seemed light-years away. Seriously, 40 brings me that much closer to hip replacements, foam toilet seats, and mismatched leisure suits. I know, I’m being a bit dramatic! I mean, my husband is in his 40s and his leisure suits almost always match! (Love you, baby!)

Planning an event is probably what’s got me down. For Anthony’s 40th, we went to Las Vegas with a large group of friends and it was amazing. I can’t think of anything quite so elaborate and time is running out. The list of things I WANT to do is much shorter than the list of things I DON’T WANT to do which include paying bills and putting gas in the car. Life seems to just be one big expense, and I’ve decided I want a temporary break from those things.

So, I’ve decided to put on my big girl panties (literally), flee the country, and face 40 head-on! We haven’t decided where we’re going but we have a few ideas. Anthony wants to go to Sydney but with the time difference, I’d turn 40 sooner so NO. We hope to narrow it down in the next few days but sometimes it comes down to a last-minute switch (like Belize) so you just never know.
